The advert for L’Agent, a diffusion line designed by Mónica and Penélope Cruz for high end lingerie company Agent Provocateur, marks Penélope Cruz’s debut as a director, and not a bad one at that. The advert is classic lingerie: sexy, steamy, desirable. All the things needed to sell the product. I for one would happily buy the underwear, having been convinced by said advert that I will look like the women seen here if I do. (N.B. I am easily swayed by luxury advertising.) Highlights? The poor man breaking out into a sweat at the sight of such a bevvy of beauties, swanning around in their rather delightful undies. That, and a very pregnant Mónica Cruz in a babydoll – she gave birth 2 days after filming. Enjoy, it is cheekily charming (pun fully intended).
Having recently been introduced to the life-consuming wonder that is Game of Thrones, life has been infiltrated with new inspirations for flowing summer hairstyles. There is only one household to blame for this – House Targaryen. Both Viserys and Daenerys are blessed with hair so blonde it’s almost white, through which runs a beautiful soft wave. Not only that, they have mastered the art of the plait (or the hairstylists on set have).
Viserys undeniably has the cooler hairstyle, sitting just above his shoulders, the kind of hair I would love to work this summer, but alas I do not have a stylist at my disposal day and night to make it look that perfect.
Just a quick tangent whilst on the subject of Danaerys: the costume designer should be congratulated for their (deliberate or not) nod to Alexander Wang in some of her outfits. The outfit below is particularly Wang-esque due to the reptilian material, structure and strap detailing across the chest.
Back to hair though, and the stuff dreams are made of; the ultimate in summer hair goes to Drew Barrymore and her bubblegum pink mane.
Evidently this is not the easiest shade to work, in terms of both the upkeep and limitations to clothing colour. But hey, when your hair looks like that, it’s totally worth it.
Tomorrow I head for the sunnier climes of Barcelona and the Auvergne in France, so if over the next couple of weeks you are wondering why I am not posting, it is because I am away relaxing and soaking up the rays. I hope to be inspired by the French women and come back looking slightly more like these women than I already do:
Rather than doing a post about the best looks from each show, I’ve decided to pick the best looks but also my favourite individual pieces from each Resort 2013 show. The stand out shows for me have to be: BCBG Max Azria for their bright, summery prints, Peter Pilotto for similar reasons – amazing, graphic, colourful prints, Stella McCartney due to the cool, elegant tailoring, and Valentino, who showcased beautiful, ladylike pieces. There are lots of pieces and looks here for you to look over – enjoy!
These beautiful sunglasses are the creation of Frenchman Thierry Lasry. He started his sunglasses label in 2006 and all are entirely handmade in France. Thierry gets his inspiration for each pair from vintage designs but he modernises them with his avant-garde touch, making his sunglasses ‘futuristic vintage’. What sets him apart from many sunglasses designers is the lack of logo, only real fans can identify a pair if seen in the street. Here are some of the best pairs from his 2012 collection:
You can check out the rest of the collection here. UK stockists include Liberty and Net-a-Porter.
Similar styles can be found for less on the high street, particularly at Urban Outfitters who have designs like these:
One of the highlights of MBFWA (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia), We Are Handsome is the label of two Australian designers, Indhra Chagoury and Jeremy J Somers. The label started in 2009 and they create beautiful swimwear in bold, bright, eye-catching prints. At the 2012 MBFWA they also showcased some gorgeous flowing skirts alongside the trademark swimwear, leggings and short dresses. This is a not a label for shrinking violets, as you are sure to be seen when wearing these gorgeous creations. Here are some of their campaign shots for the 2012 ‘The Romantic’ collection, shot by She is Frank in Miami.
And these are some of the catwalk looks they showed during Fashion Week, view the rest here.
