First seen prominently at Craig Green during London Collections: Men, then Pier Paolo and Maria at Valentino were inspired by them, not to mention Margiela too; fences are really having their moment in the Fashion Spotlight.
Margiela Haute Couture
Valentino Haute Couture
While the fence look is quite blatant at Craig Green, and maybe slightly unwearable off the catwalk, it serves as inspiration for the beautiful creations at Valentino and Margiela. Both houses took the pattern of a wrought iron fence, the type you’d see on an elegant Italian balcony, and translated that into breathtaking Couture gowns. The pattern is more subtle at Margiela, but it can still be seen in the intricate beading work. The main question raised: Will you be wearing wooden fence on your face come autumn? Or are you more of a subtle Valentino fence wearer? Maybe you’re still on the fence about the trend? (No pun intended…)
This little beauty popped up on the Vogue website and I couldn’t help but fall swiftly in love with it. The dress is such a beautiful cut – obviously, it’s Jil Sander – and the print is just so eye-catching. Alexandra Beneti is working graphic florals, a big AW trend. The vibrancy of the colours saves the dress from being too pretty and wishy-washy. It’s everything SJP’s Valentino dress at the Met Ball could have been, but just wasn’t. A prime example of why colour is your friend.
Earlier last week, Blake Lively arrived at the Good Morning America studios wearing a striking red suit by Michael Kors. She would have looked chic and fresh, had it not been for a bad choice of accessories. People often underestimate the effect which shoes can have on an outfit, and in this case the effect was one of cheapening the look.
Rather than doing a post about the best looks from each show, I’ve decided to pick the best looks but also my favourite individual pieces from each Resort 2013 show. The stand out shows for me have to be: BCBG Max Azria for their bright, summery prints, Peter Pilotto for similar reasons – amazing, graphic, colourful prints, Stella McCartney due to the cool, elegant tailoring, and Valentino, who showcased beautiful, ladylike pieces. There are lots of pieces and looks here for you to look over – enjoy!
